Laura Moore was born in KIngaroy, Queensland and grew up on a cattle and peanut farm close to the beautiful Bunya Mountains - Wakka Wakka country. She attended Kingaroy High School and Queensland University and gained a Bachelor of Economics and a Diploma in Education.

She married a Veterinary Surgeon, Patrick Ryan in 1980 and had 3 children, John, Aimee and Clancy. She cared for Patrick (with Multifocal Motor Neuropathy) as a carer for 14 years.

After he died in 2009, Laura became a keen bushwalkers and traveller, taking many photos of so many wonderful walks. She also pursued her love of plants at the Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens. She is a keen environmentalist.
