“This ad is gender neutral,” read a 2016 poster for the fashion label Diesel; “I resist definitions,” splashed across a Calvin Klein ad in the same year.

Androgyne: Fashion + Gender explores the ways in which the genders have blended, depicted over the centuries in antiquities, cultural icons, and contemporary photography. Featuring a selection of over 120 striking images, Parisian fashion writer Patrick Mauriès celebrates a rich history of androgyny drawn from nineteenth-century painting to colourful 70's pop stars to fashion, accompanied by essays and writings that seek to understand the very human drive to escape defined categories.
