Journeys in Art celebrates the 135th anniversary of the Royal Queensland Art Society and its support for Queensland artists. The book highlights some of the Society’s current high achievers from the Brisbane Branch, and the benefits and opportunities offered to all members in their artistic endeavours. It records many of the major artistic events and individual successes over the last thirty-five years but also reveals the stark challenges the Society has faced in adapting a long-standing organisation to a changing, increasingly diverse environment. Personal recollections of RQAS leaders and members provide a candid account of how pressing issues of continuity and renewal have been resolved to make the Society a modern, vibrant institution of art in Queensland.
